Tips for your business to survive and thrive during every mercury retrograde


 

This past month (from May 10 to June 2,) we experienced one of the highly dreaded transitions in astrology. Mercury Retrograde is when the planet Mercury appears to be moving backwards around Earth. An illusion created by the fact that Earth and Mercury travel around the sun at different speeds. This happens three or four times a year, and since Mercury is the planet that rules character, communication, and travel, this reverse movement is known to bring chaos to Earth. So if you experienced technical difficulties (Hello Ontario Storm) or had a hard time communicating - more than usual - know that you were not alone (Amber Heard, and Elon Musk were feeling the effects publicly too).

More so now, with the majority of our correspondents shared through applications, websites, videos or emails, a malfunction could be painful. We like to think of retrograde as the perfect time to pause and reflect. Instead of always focusing on moving forward, sometimes, nature will force us to slow down and look back before we burn out.

Much like high tides, Mercury Retrogrades are cycles that we can be mindful of, especially when making big decisions - whether it be in your personal or business life.

The next retrograde is from September 9th to October 2nd, and here are a few tips to get you prepared;

REview:

  • Expect travel delays and scheduling mix-ups. Double-check appointments and confirm the details multiple times.

  • Be prepared for mechanical breakdowns, computer crashes and phones acting up.

  • Triple check your emails BEFORE you hit send.

  • At work, make sure to BACK UP your files.

RElax:

  • Be patient when you're repeating yourself and if you’re misunderstood.

  • Allow sufficient time for shipping delays.

REconnect:

  • Don’t be surprised if old connections attempt to hash things out.

  • On the other hand, if you’re looking for a job, it’s a good time to reach out to your network.

  • This is a good time to schedule a corporate REtreat or any activities that offer an opportunity to REview past performances.

REconsider old proposals or projects:

  • A spontaneous, “out-of-the-blue” business idea may not be sound during this period. The conventional wisdom advises against finalizing and/or signing contracts on deals during Mercury retrograde. An exception can be made if you are REnegotiating or RElocating.

  • Triple check everything if you absolutely must close a deal.

REsearch a new strategy:

From personal experience, I can tell you that my IG account was hacked during the last retrograde, and it was a true test of patience. MANY past connections resurfaced, and it was both a blessing and a nightmare. A playful attitude is key, and ample flexibility to manage surprises.
